A little bit behind showing you what I got this week at Walgreens. There are several good deals, including freebies after R.R. One thing I have learned since I started hard core couponing that even if it's free it might not be a deal for me. Plus I live in an area that taxes before coupons so free isn't actually free, I still pay the taxes on it. If I lived in an area that taxed after coupons then I would jump on more deals especially the free ones. Of course sometimes it might not be something I could use but I think if it's something that could be donated to a shelter. I currently have a bag full of deodarants that I won't use quickly enough so I will be taking them down to the local woman's shelter where they will be used and are needed. So this week I focused on things I needed and passed on somethings that though it was a good deal it wasn't something I neeeded at the moment or could use.

I was just going to get the Dt. Coke since it's the same price I pay normally at Wal-Mart but when I discovered that I could buy a few more items I would get a $5 R.R. the deal got better. For $3 more than just buying the Dt. Coke I was able to get 2 Pringles and 2 Oreos breaking them down to $0.75 each! The Nivea was free minus the taxes and since my store gives me overage I applied it to the candles which were $2 for the four of them minus the taxes. The Listerine I paid $0.99 for after coupon and R.R. So it was a higher money day for me but I got the pop at my normal price plus a few other wanted/needed items. Also I was able to save over $50 for the items I did get. Most weeks I don't spend over $5 including tax and this week was the same if you take out the pop I normally buy at Wal-Mart. Next week there seems to be some good deals coming up and I will focus rolling the R.R. I have and keeping my out of pocket expense as low as possible.

Motivation

Have you ever had those days where your to do list is calling you but finding the motivation to answer is a bit of a challenge? Today is one of my full days off from the library when my precious child is off learning or at least pretending to be learning. Normally these days are filled with organizing grocery lists, going to the grocery store, completing shopping lists for a board I belong to, cleaning the house, planning menus, organizing coupons, thinking of things to say on here now that I am back to writing, along with other things that are easier to do without the presence of a child.

Instead I am sitting here watching Oprah and half attempting working on my grocery lists for tomorrow and this weekend. I have finally managed to finalize them and now must pull coupons that I need for each store. The day is slipping away and before I know it, it will be time to go pick up my son and do the dinner and homework gig that is required of me.

Plus Thursday's seem more busy when he gets home because I work Wednesday nights and so I only have about an hour to talk to him before I head out the door, not returning until he is in bed. So we have things that weren't discussed the day before on top of things that happened today. It's even more crazy the weekend he goes to his Nana's from Friday after school until Sunday before dinner.

So I somehow must find the motivation I so need to get the things that need to get done before the mom hat comes back on this afternoon. Sometimes I find myself wearing more than one hat at a time and know that is all part of being a mom. Have a great day everybody, I am off to find my motivation.

It Smells Like BENGAY

Nothing says morning than the smell of BENGAY. I thought I had years before I had to start my mornings with a nice slather of arthritis cream in order to move. Apparently though I was wrong and for the past two mornings I have rubbed it on my shoulder due to lack of movement.

I wish I would have listened when others said take care of yourself while your young. But no I played hard and now at 31 I am paying for my sins of my youth. Things pop, creak, and moan when I move. I can predict the weather better than the weatherman at times. Normally it's my back or neck but this time I get to add shoulder to the list. Apparently passing out and sleeping on one side tends to make your shoulder go stiff and refuse to move.

Though I have discovered a second use for BENGAY, it will open your sinuses better than anything out there first thing in the morning. Of course it also guarantees no one will mess with you because the smell is so strong no one wants to get close to you. So I am off to doctor my arm and pretend to get things done until the 10 year old comes home and I go off for a night of work at the library. Have a great pain free day everybody.

Hello Friends!

Yes I realize it's been a few months since we last saw each other but well life got in the way. I would love to say I have been on trips around the world but no just trying to hang on to my sanity during a difficult time. Being laid off and only working part time tends to make a person lose themselves in the midst of the sadness. But what I have realized is I have missed writing each day. This time though it won't be just about the deals, it will also be about my life and raising a 10 year old boy.

I will still show you the great deals I get and pass on information about other deals when I can. I will also show you how I have managed to keep the cabinets full despite the money flow I was used to. Plus Christmas is fast approaching and I will show you how I am giving my son a good Christmas without a lot of out of pocket expense.

During these months of not working a lot I have been learning how to cook more from scratch and less from box and will probably show you dishes from time to time.

I have been getting to know my son better and spending lots more time with him, enjoying this time until I have a full time job that doesn't allow the spontaneous trips we have gotten used to.

I have taught myself to knit and I am currently working on a shawl that I hope to finish before my son graduates high school. I have read lots, tends to happen working part time at a library. I haven't done a lot cross stitch wise but I am getting back to it since I am making bookmarks for those I work with on a daily basis.

I was also lucky to go on a trip this past June to the east coat and hope to have a post about that soon.

Well I have think I have said enough for now but know you will be seeing me more and I won't be a stranger anymore. Have a great day everybody.

I am sorry the posts have been few and far between lately. I am finding it hard to find grocery store deals like I did when living in Texas and it has put me in a slump due to this. I have also changed my eating habits so I won't be buying a lot of what I normally did with coupons. I will still be using coupons to get those great deals on household and personal products because you can't beat a free razor and that is money I can use towards my new eating habits. I will still be searching for the deals on meat and other products I am now eating and even keeping my eyes peeled for coupons that I can use on them. I am hoping to be able to show how I save money on household and personal products with coupons and deals and use the savings to keep my food budget close to what I was spending before.

Also stay tuned this week for not one but two giveaways I will be holding.

I am also going to start posting once a week link ups to deals around the blogosphere for the different stores out there. Freezer Cooking Day - March

It's another month which means time for some baking! Right now I am just focusing on muffins and other items to make for a quick breakfast or a simple snack. After taking stock of the freezer I still have enough pancakes and waffles for M but muffins are needed since there are no more. I am making only two kinds this month since I am trying to limit my bread consumption. Both are first time for me so hoping I have good results like I did last month. I will do my baking on Monday afternoon when I get home from work.

Weekly Savings Round Up

Just a few trips this week to get some much needed items and stock up on some sale items as well.

On Sunday it was a trip to Walgreens where I saved $30.39 and spent $2.34!

Back to Walgreens on Monday and I saved $16.78 and spent $1.18

Then on Thursday it was the weekly grocery store trip and I spent $22.96 at Wal-Mart

The great thing is the money I use at Walgreens is money I make on doing survey's so it's like using a gift card. If I don't have the money then it comes out of my $120 a month budget for groceries and household items. I am under $120 for the month but I still have a trip to Aldi tomorrow so I will hit my budget for the month and still have items for next month. I am getting ready for Freezer Day on Monday and I will post more details on it tomorrow.

Walmart Savings 2/25

Quick trip to Walmart yesterday to pick up some items needed for the next week that I couldn't get at Aldi. The milk I could have gotten cheaper at Aldi but I can't use coupons there so the buy a gallon of milk get a half gallon of chocolate milk free coupon I can't use there. So in the end I still come out cheaper doing it at Walmart than buying them both at Aldi. I am also redoing the way I eat so I might spend a little more than I used to but by saving on household and personal products I can still come out even in the end. I still have a trip to Aldi on Sunday but I still came in at $120 this month on groceries and still have things to use next month! With that information on to what I bought and saved.

Made two trips to Walgreens in the past two days. There are some great deals to be had this week with combining the right coupons with the right sales. The great thing about my OOP expense is that it's being paid for by my survey's that I do for Pine Cone Research. $3.00 is added to my pay pal account the day after completeing a survey and then I just use my Pay Pal debit card to pay for my Walgreens trips! So far I have been doing enough survey's each week to come out even. I am hoping that my good luck with getting the survey's will last. Now that you know how I cover the OOP expense on to the deals!

The weather cleared and I was able to get out to the stores today. One store I wanted to go to was Target for the Venus Embrace Gift Card deal going on right now. Buy two and get a $5 Target Gift Card. What makes it better is in this past Sunday's insert there was a $2.00 off one Venus Razor and a buy 1 Venus Embrace or Breeze get a free Olay Body Wash. I also signed up for the new Target Mobile coupons and on Sunday I was sent a $2 Target Coupon for the Venus razor. Well I went into the store and discovered that the kind I wanted was ringing up $4.74 instead of the $6.99 ad price and still qualified for the gift card! Oh how I wish I could have gotten more coupons but I am still pleased with the deal I got. Still trying to relearn the stores here and it's taking some time. Discovering that with living in a small town there isn't a lot of competition and prices are higher on some things. The good thing is money I save at Walgreens and Aldi can allow the higer prices on meat and of course taxes since I now pay those on food again. Stew meat was a little higher than I normally pay on meat but I was in the mood for stew so I splurged. So far I have only spent $50 this month and my old budget before the move was $120 on food so we will see if I can make it. Need to make a run to Aldi tomorrow for some staples and of course I found a store that sells nothing but chicken at lower prices than other stores that I am going to check out tomorrow since I am need of chicken. Some of the items I got at Wal-Mart were not normal purchases since they were for the Super Bowl party I had.

In November some regions were lucky to have a up to $30 off M.C. in their Sunday insert for Breeze Contour. By using it this week you can get it for free and recieve a $10 R.R.! For me I just had to pay tax since my area taxes before coupons not after which is an adjustment for me. I had to go to two Walgreens to find it but was happy to find that the second had plenty in stock and a cashier happy to let me do two transactions since I only had two coupons left.

Freezer Cooking Day - My First Time

Tomorrow I will be attempting my first ever freezer day. I won't be able to do as much as I would like since I am still waiting to hook up my deep freezer but I am going to concentrate on breakfast items to make mornings go a little bit faster but still provide a yummy hot breakfast that is kid friendly.

One of the nice things about this move is there is an Aldi here and I really like shopping at Aldi for things that I can't get cheaper with sales and coupon. Especially items like produce and milk that you can't find coupons for. So far I have discovered without a sale Aldi is cheaper when it comes to banannas, milk, eggs, sticks of butter, and flous ($0.88 a bag) I only needed a few items this week since I got my meats last week when I found some great deals on them. Aldi doesn't take coupons so I will go there for items I am in need of that I don't have a coupon for or there isn't a sale for in the near future.

As I learn I will pass on the information. I have found out that you are taxed before coupons in my new city compared to where I was living before and you were taxed after the coupon was taken off. So I have a return to make since I bought something thinking I might go negative but no biggie it's a learning process. This deal ended on Saturday but time got away from me on posting it sooner. Thanks to A Full Cup on the heads up on free Nivea Body Wash last, I can never have too much of this.

Fight for Preemies

My son was a preemie, you wouldn't know it by looking at him today. Nine years ago my son was born at exactlly 32 weeks and only weighing 4lbs. This was my first child and I was so scared and so worried. I never got to hold him before they rushed him by helicopter 45 minutes north to another hospital. He was a fighter and by the second day breathing only with minimal assistance. He had a small episode of NEC which with medicine went away or so we thought. When he was about 3 weeks old we were told he would need surgery to close a valve on his heart that in normal babies normally closes on it's own. In preemies though sometimes it won't close and normally with medicine the problem is fixed. This time it would require surgery. We made the decision to send him to St. Louis which was 8 hours away from me and that almost killed me. I was lucky to be able to go with him and thanks to Ronald McDonald house in St. Louis be close by. He had the surgery and came through with flying colors. Two weeks later he was close to being discharged and sent home when another problem arose.

Apparently the hospital he was sent from where he had the NEC problem didn't tell the new hospital and they weren't aware of the problem. Well the bleeding in his intestines came back due to a blockage in his colon about 4in long. So he was prepped for another surgery and the problem was fixed. Finally at 8 weeks old and right after his due date he was sent home only the next day to be admitted to the local hospital due to jaundice. A few days under the lights we were home and settling in.

The first year came with challenges and a few close calls but we fought together and came through the other side. He spent almost two years in therapy due to delevopmental problems after he turned 1 but today you wouldn't know any of it happened to him except for the scars on his back and stomach.He is almost the average size of a 9 year old now and so smart and so brilliant. I look at him now and would never know he was my little preemie.

Lowes Build and Grow Workshop 11/14

This Saturday Lowes will be having another Build and Grow Workshop from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. This week's activity is a garage with a car. This is a great free activity to do with kid's and each kid gets a kit, googles, Lowe's apron, and patch. Go here to register and get there early since they only have a limited amount of kits available.

Next week they will have their second workshop for the month and the activity at that time will be this cute Snowman.

While registering for this weeks workshop you can go ahead and register for next weeks as well.

These are some great workshops and my son has enjoyed each one he has done so far.

Walgreens Savings 10/27

Made a trip to Walgreens tonight while M was at Karate practice and ran into a few problems when checked out by a manager. First he wouldn't allow 2 $1.25 off 2 Quaker due to the fact two were free. Ok that I can understand, no biggie. I got to my car and realized I forgot to have the Dove coupon scanned. I went back in thinking quick return and redo. Nope the manager said if used the in ad coupon and the manufacture coupon I would be getting it free and that was not allowed. I smiled nicely and explained they would still be paid for them even if I did get them for free. Bascially I was called a thief and that's when I said fine do the return and I will go to the one up the street where they offer much more friendly customer service. So I picked up M and went to the other one, got the Dove and did did another transaction of the Dulcolax and Hall's using the R.R. from Quaker. I had much better service there and the sweet guy who checked me out reminded me of the coupons on Walgreens.com and was concerned at first when he didn't see the coupon on the Dulcolax until he saw it in my hand.

Some good deals this week to be had and of course the monthly ones are still going on. I did two transactions this morning and then did another one this afternoon. Had a run in with the cashier this afternoon when the R.R. didn't print and all she had to say was it was because I used a R.R. to pay. I had the manager come to the front and she was the one who checked me out in the morning when I used a R.R. to pay and got some back. She returned the items that were supposed to produce R.R. and went to the register I checked out in the morning and made the cashier ring them up again and sure enough out popped my R.R. The cashier of course tried to look shocked but was very rude about it, grunted at me and that was it. If I would have been a first timer at this then I would have believed her but from reading A Full Cup and understanding how this works I was prepared. I did thank the manager for humoring me and she was very glad to see that it worked and she was looking at the messed up machine when I left. I just wonder how many others walked away without their R.R. because of this.

Went to Target yesterday to see if I could find any of the Glade products that are part of the buy 5 get a $5.00 Gift Card and I scored. They were almost out so I grabbed a few and then went back today to another one but they were completely wiped out of the scented oil holders. I will check everytime I go in since I have until 12/26 to take adavantage of this great sale. What would make this a great deal is buy 5 holders and buy 5 refills. Find the free refill when you buy the holder at your local Krogers if you have one plus the $1.50 off 1 found in the red tins. Spend $5.00 and get back two $5.00 Gift Cards! If you don't have a Krogers look at local grocery stores near the Glade products since there are reports of several stores across the conutry having the blinkie machines.

CVS Smell The Savings 10/22

Ran by CVS after work to see if they had any Glade Sense and Spray or Lasting Impressions in stock since I found out last night that they had a CVS coupon on their site for both making them free when stacked with a manufacture coupon. I went to one and they were wiped clean and then went to the one by my house and they had plenty. The cashier got a little confused and forgot to adjust coupons so at the end she had to void a few of the CVS printables so I wouldn't have a negative amount which means I still have a few left to do it again before the sale is over Saturday. I had to find a place to put them since my linen closet is already stuffed to the gills with other Sense and Spray that I have gotten free and other free air freshners. I can't believe I used to pay $3.00 for an air fresher and that was on a good day.

Thanks to Common Sense with Money I found out Monday that Dollar General has their 60oz liquid Snuggle on sale this week for $2.50 a piece. I grabbed a few items in case of overage and I had no trouble using the coupons. The only concern the cashier had was that the coupon amount was higher than the sale and I mentioned adjusting the coupon but she stated they weren't allowed to adjust. So I held my breath and she said she would scan the first to see what would happen and when it went through she said it seems to work and scanned the rest. Now that I know how easy it is to use coupons there I will go back for other deals.
